Next Season Changes

Post by emplep7 »

Hi all,

After going through all of the suggestions from the league, the admin team has decided to make the following changes effective this offseason:

1. Consolidate/clean-up the forum
- This will make it easier to digest for any new joiners, but also easier to find information for any vets who like to peruse the forum

2. Condense the off-season schedule
- The idea here is that the draft will kick off the off-season instead of those boring coaching sims. These coaching sims will then happen in parallel during the draft (and may look to run contract decisions as well)

3. Add weekend sims during the regular season
- We will either run sims daily or run sims on Saturdays to reduce the down time between sims and also allow us to go through seasons at a slightly faster speed

4. Clean-up the CBA
- Andrei has been kind enough to start looking into having AI work through our CB which again will make it easier to digest for new joiners. We will also go through it and clean up any inconsistencies that exist in the current version before AI gets its grubby little hands on it.

5. Updated Version (dont get excited)
- We are not committing to anything here, but 100% understand that this will help to draw in new GMs (with the potential to also turn away long-standing GMs). We are still working through what the plan is here, but know that the current game iteration isn't ideal and isn't attractive to bringing in new GMs. We will keep you all updated here, but am really hoping Gary decides to invest real time into making DDS:PB great again.

Thank you all again for all of your feedback so far. There are some other really good ideas that we are considering that were presented to the admin team, but are not quite ready to pull the trigger on those. As always, we will continue to welcome any and all feedback from you all as well value your opinion (even you sometimes Andrew) and thank you all for making the community what it is today!

Love always,
- The Admin Team

Looks awesome - thanks

For AI - I built the bot already but I can't share the link yet as the damn thing is looking for log in details every time you want to access it. I need to figure out how to bypass this requirement. Escalated this to Azure support but they are pretty slow and not very good (i.e. incompetent). So waiting now. Hopefully should be up and running within a few weeks.

As for CBA, lets wait till updates for now if we can. I'd like to deploy the bot and see how it behaves when we actually start using it. We can then tweak the CBA so that it is easier for the bot to digest it and provide better results. It works fine for simple questions like ''what is CSL Luxury tax rules'' but when I try something more advanced like ''Tell me if a trade is legal...'' then it struggles. I suspect if we tweak CBA for bot consumption more than for human consumption then the bot will work better.

Appreciate the notice.

#1-4 all sound good. Really appreciate all the work by everyone involved.

For #5: I really hate the idea of giving Gary more money for not actually providing a better product. Not that $30 or whatever is going to break me. But dude is on like strike 8 at this point. He fixes maybe one or two things, breaks as many things as he fixes, and seems to spend a lot of time on things that sound cool but end up being completely cosmetic or completely broken.

Will it bring in new managers? It very well might. I honestly don't know enough to say for sure, but it probably does help to some degree. I'm just really not looking forward to having to spend a considerable amount of time to find all the new bugs, and deal with all the fallout of core players that undoubtedly get nerffed by the new engine. I'm sure I will come around to it eventually, but I'm not going to lie, I'm not looking forward to it. At all.

For clarification, would the new version go into effect for next season? Or just that considerable time and research will now be spent exploring new versions for change at some point in the near future?

Great news

I'm on board if we decide to simply jump into PB26 when it launches and then work out the kinks as we find them.

i think we have no choice really as there is no other alternative. So we just stick with the current version or upgrade. Probably moving to a new engine is too radical

Only other option is finding a web-based engine that works like it should and with the level of detail DDS has.
I don't think there is any but if it was web-based it would help attratcting GMs much easier since it would work both on PC and mobile, and honestly, less and less people have PC nowadays when you can do anything from your phone.

BTW I stand by what Doug said. It's useless to give up money for an engine upgrade if it presents lots of bugs like all DDS engines does.

That said, if Gary is able to fix what does not work properly, for example zoning being useless, players not being able to correctly reach the rim, driving from the perimeter being useless, that kind of stuff, instead of focusing on new useless features like player archetypes, I'm good with switching engines. BUT ONLY IF IT'S A REAL UPGRADE.
I don't need the engine to tell me that my 65 FGI, 80 FGJ PF is a stretch four, I can figure that out by myself LOL

Also there's a Wolverine Studios discord where they are talking about what's new heading to PB26. I have PB25 here, bought it to try it out and to see if what's wrong in CSL ie zoning or passive D being useless to stop inside teams was a problem of the PB22 engine or a problem of our ratings and league structure, but there's no way to convert DDS22 into DDS25 file to try it out really, Andre tried that out for me with CSL database. And really the default ratings are so different from what we have here tests are completely useless.

I would gladly do it if I could but I have no contact with Gary, just know he's active in Discord, might try to reach him out there to see if there's way to test PB25 with CSL rosters and if it is better than PB26 should again be an improvement worth getting. If the same mistakes keep happening in PB25, unless Gary fix them with our feedback, it's worthless upgrading engines.

Yeah, a web based engine would be the easiest entry for new potential GM's.
But as much as I hate to say it, DDS has a lot of features for multi player and a lot of features (on the market long enough). It will be hard to find an alternative without loosing some.

Unfortunately I also agree with Doug, that the newer engines just switches out different bugs and nothing worth buying is added. Not sure about new GM's either, to me the WS basketball forum is dead. The same guys playing every iteration of the game in Single player ...

Would be extremely happy to see some major changes. Regardless of the direction the league is heading, I'm planning on staying. Hoping to free up some of my spare time sooner or later in the upcoming seasons so I can dedicate more time into the league. I know I haven't been the most active GM in a while, but I can't deny the love I have for the league.

Discord is very much alive, I guess reddit could be as well. Forums are outdated to most even though I love the structure and how easy it is to access old data!
