I have really enjoyed this article. I never thought about it, but I have to agree with the category you put me in. And that "quick strike" is not so much related to time as it is to the fact that I can't stand people who treat you like a fool (implicitly with the offers they send).

I'll admit, nice article. Likely the best on here.

This touches just about every type of personality that we have in the league.

Not going to lie, I enjoy talking trade with most individuals here, however, there are a couple guys who just have a real false perception on their players value past the point of what the game actually says.

Also, can we just all agree that once a player goes to Sacramento, they are for all intents and purposes dead to the rest of the league? Bt is too calculated and it pays off with the sustained success (albeit considering the playoffs). Once you put on that Kings uniform you will retire a King.

Very very interesting stuff Tim. I think I could consider myself any of these at different times.

Oh no, you're definitely the maximizer. At least until you get desperate for a deal.

Good read.

I see myself in nearly all of those categories depending on the player I'm after or being asked about. I'm more impulsive and into certain players/ player types, if it's someone specific I really want I'll go all out for them (Paul George DeMarcus Cousins Brook Lopez) the guys I like but can do with or without is meh, easier to get a cheaper version of who or what I seek.

That said I would LOVE to see a tally of actual number of trades by teams because I think that would put this article into a much better perspective as a shopper is described as being trade happy (per se) but I think some guys in other categories may have just as many trades as a Shopper making that their dominant trade personality imo.

It's less about frequency of trading and more about approach to trading.

Very enjoyable read and like you said, I think GMs wear many hats but can be dominant in one area too.

:)

Calculated another category? I think we all enjoy sims for different reasons. Some to trade a ton, some not a lot, some trades using advanced stats, some don't. Good mix of personalities. I've had good chats with all regarding trades.

Only a couple of people here know my back story and why the team is constructed as is. I guess if that was irrelevant, you're spot on and I might have made a move for a bigger name.

Yeah I know it's about approach moreso than frequency but frequency is also a factor as a Shopper could be ignorantly categorized as a trade whore as well from what I'm reading.

2013-2016 season trades, not that I didn't make alot of trades (didn't check but saw my Magic listed several times as well) but the Lakers have made alot of trades a'la Shopper like. Not that it's bad but kinda stigmatizing things.

Definitely one of the best articles I've read in a long time. It also is different from GM to GM as GMs who has the same trading styles might never be able to get a deal done and might view that GM in one of those other categories. I think we have a good mix of different styles in the league, which is what makes it so interesting.

Great article dude!

Back like one-two years I could have been considered a shopper but with time you learn that most of it is spending time on something that will never materialize. So right now I believe the Patient profile really sweets me. Never in a hurry to make a deal, will do the ones I think that makes sense, does not matter if I'm giving too much or too little value.

But great article and as we've had millions of trade chats I could potentially identify at least 80% of the GMs here in these categories!

This is a really cool article by Tim (one of many by him). The somewhat similar article Kevin writes is pretty hilarious and entertaining too.
