Chicago, IL: After many unsuccessful tries, the Chicago Bulls were finally able to announce Damian Lillard's arrival to the team yesterday, on a straight swap that sent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the Atlanta Hawks, Dame's former squad.
After holding several talks to Miami last season, the Bulls decided not to pay the price to bring the scoring guard to the Windy City, but after seeing he went packing to Atlanta in the offseason, they revamped the hopes of finding a suitable deal with the Hawks.
Some time into the season, both teams were not clicking, and with the Hawks in need of more D and size at the wings and the Bulls urging for more playmaking and scoring, the deal was pretty logical.
"We're happy to welcome Dame to our team. He's been a great, successful player throughout his career, making the postseason several times and being up there with the best scorers around CSL. But now, coming to a franchise with seven lifted banners already, we're looking to give him the possibility of achieving what he has never been able to do, a ring. That's the goal for this year, and it couldn't be different on a team with two 20 point per game level players, surrounded by defenders and guys who are willing to do whatever it takes to win. Myself and all the coaching staff, we hope Lillard is the answer for establishing us as one of the top forces in the East, because, you know, once the playoffs are here, it's a completely different animal." said Marcos, enthusiastic about being able to bring in a player he admires so much.
"It's true, I've always been a fan of him. It's a real pleasure to be able to work with him on my team for the very first time. I hope it remains like this for a long time. About the second question, playing off the ball, we're hoping him and Payne or Trice, our current playmakers, can co-exist and create as many good scoring opportunities for everyone as possible, specially for Markkanen. This should help his offensive game blossom even more. We're excited!"
The Bulls are now rumoured to be looking for another defensive specialist to round out the roster in their quest for East's top spots.
