Magic Fanatic! Spotlight: Aaron Gordon

Post by WillyJakkz »

"With the number three pick in the 2014 CSL Draft, the Orlando Magic select... F Aaron Gordon from the University of Arizona."

After these words were uttered by the Commissioner, Aaron Gordon's CSL dreams had now become a reality. Magic GM WillyJakkz stated, "There wasn't even a debate as to who we wanted with the pick... none whatsoever and we turned down many suitors for the pick for some very high quality young and veteran players but Aaron was our guy... Plain and simple."

Although there were many options on the board with some mocks having 7'0" PF/ C's Nikola Jokic and Isaiah Austin ranked ahead of Gordon, it was Gordon's overall game that appealed to the GM as he likened Gordon to multi-talented veteran Shawn Marion and at only 19 yrs of age, the comparison seems to be quite accurate.

In 14 games since the trade of C Jonas Valanciunas to the Milwaukee Bucks for another versatile player G Giannis Antetokounmpo, with increased minutes (30+) Gordon is putting up 14.7pts, 5.7rebs, 1.4asts, 1stl, and 1.6blks per contest.

"I'm just thankful to be a part of an organization that trusts in my ability and hopefully I can continue to get better and not let them or myself down.", Gordon said.

Aaron is a kid who came in and got after it on both sides of the court and that was the first thing that stood out in Training Camp and uh... and we knew right then that we had to make sure we get him the playing time he needs to develop and as the season progressed we knew we had to not only start him but increase his on court time even more and to his credit he has taken advantage of the opportunity and hasn't looked back since...

He won't ever the the first or even second option on any team that is going to challenge for a championship but he's a great piece to have. Shawn Marion comparisons seem to be spot on.

Aaron is a great player and if he fully develop, could be one of the best at his position. Like the fact he can do everything and in a nice way!

I don't see any stars in this past draft but Jabari.. But there are a lot of good players and, when it's all said and done, Aaron will be at the top of those good guys. Do it all kind of players are rare to find and he won't only do everything, he'll be efficient at everything. You have a gem in your team, and lots of talent around him. You just need what half of the league needs: a superstar, someone with a real killer instinct who'll win you games down the stretch.

A great 3rd option but he seems to be a Shawn Marion type and Marion carried great value at the top of his game.

I like him a lot - think he may not be a good enough rebounder for PF at the moment but his overall game is great.
Congrats to season 16 ASL champion SoulKey. For the Swarm!
