The king of the boards

Post by mgtr81 »

While still a sophomore, Wendell Carter is leading the CSL in rebounding with 12.4 rebounds per game. The Bucks big man has a natural talent to grab rebounds, and in fact, his numbers could be even better. Not only are they not inflated, but with room to grow since Carter is playing only 30.9 minutes per game and Milwaukee runs a slow paced offense and plays man-to-man defense.

Overall, Carter is having a very good second year as a pro. The Duke alum is averaging 11.8 points on 44.1 % shooting from the field, while also adding 1.4 assists, 0.8 blocks and 0.7 steals per contest. He has improved from 40.3 % to 44.1 % on his shooting, but still needs to work on his free throw shooting, who is still at 56.4 % (still better tan last season's 53.1 %).
Chris Duhon wrote:We are very pleased with Wendell's development. He is showing his natural talent on the boards and has adapted to the team very well since the very first day. Coming from the same college than Brandon probably helped him, too. We have received several offers for him since we drafted him, but he is one of the core pieces of this team.
The Bucks are 8-14 currently. While that is better than the last few seasons, it is worse than what the Front Office was expecting, and that may be in part tied to the fact that ownership has not been too focused on the team so far. Still, the Bucks are not that far behind from a playoff spot, and player development should help them during the second half of the season, being such a young team.
Wendell Carter wrote:We are heading in the right direction. While our record is what it is, there is a feeling within the roster that we may have a chance if we keep on working as we have done during the last months. The environment is much better this season than it was last year. As for me, I just come out and give my best every time I'm on the court. I'm there to help my teammates, no matter what my tasks are. We are a team and we play as such.
Many wonder how the change in rules next season may affect the CSL landscape, but among the few things that may remain unchanged is rebounding. And having such an specialist as Carter will definitely help the Bucks on his way to the playoffs, hopefully soon. He is a good teammate, too.
Troy Brown wrote:He has helped me a lot in becoming a member of the team. He faced the same situation a year ago, so his words are encouraging. He is a great player and a great teammate, and we have a very special feeling about this team for the future. Wins will come and we will finally show we have something special for the Bucks fans.
In addition, given players usually need a couple years to get used to the pro league, Carter may be even more valuable for the team next year, probably being able to play more minutes and increase those league-leading numbers.

I really wanted Carter in that draft, obviously when I jumped up to #1 that wasn't going to be a thing anymore, but I remember scouting him early in that season and just being completely wowed by him. Carter isn't a star, but damn if he isn't an elite team player.

Missed this article before ... and yes Carter really is a stud on the boards. Top3 in rebounds for the years to come.
He has to get his shooting % up a little bit more to be helpful on O too.
