It will be interesting to see what he actually attempts to implement in the new version. I feel like Gary is very stuck in his ways (as a programmer, I know I've had the same mentality as well) and may not be as open to adding new features knowing that it could be a lot of re-working current code that is working just fine. Fingers crossed I guess?

I hope it leads him to some of the code being rewritten from scratch. The game is probably due it. Maybe even a 2nd developer to help would be a nice to help refresh the product.

At this point in the game, it would probably be very difficult for another developer to come in and even understand how the code all ties in together but that would be a great addition to the franchise.

Oh yeah I have no doubt just think a fresh pair of eyes would help. Or if building from scratch they could certainly help.

One thing he did mention was that he’s developing a brand new UI that all games will be getting from here on out. So he is willing to make big changes.

By the way, don’t take any of what I’m saying on to the WS forums. I’m sure Gary wanted to keep our conversations between us.

A UI change though really isn't much of a change. That's really just cosmetic and anyone with design skills would be able to take care of that fairly easily. Re-coding the entire game like Chris suggested would be a MASSIVE undertaking though.

True, that's a lot of work even if you can re-use parts of the old engine. And if I look around in the WS forums I'm afraid he is just not selling enough to take on this huge step and re-coding the game engine itself.
But in his shoes I would invest time in the start of an updated sim engine instead of just an UI update. Maybe the time would be enough to integrate already some of the mentioned useful features without starting from scratch.

Even if you think about the change in basketball real life the game engine needs to move with this.

Completely agree. His engine, as currently constituted, is not flexible to integrate the different styles of basketball we have seen throughout the history of the NBA.

Yep I say once again look at OOTP - they integrate different baseball eras really well and you can customise the generational styles on a dime.

I think one of the biggest problems is the coding language the game is based on. If he picked up a more contemporary language, I feel like a better game would eventually emerge.

Yeah I have to agree with that. I would rather he did a crowdfund we could support for him to go back and spend some serious time on developing the game again bottom up.

For those who haven't seen and aren't on the Facebook chat, Gary Gorski just released a blog post for DDS19 Pro Football and Basketball. Take a look:

I, for one, am all in on this new engine as it sounds very, very promising!

This looks so cool.
I just don't see a "Pick 'n' Roll" style of play at the screen he posted, I mean, there are drive and shoot, drive and pass, catch and shoot, all that stuff but don't see pick and roll.

Maybe that's because that 7 seconds or less offence asks for no pick and rolls but still it should show as it's one of the basic principles of offence nowadays and there is a defensive strat (Switch) designed to stop those basically.

I'm buying this game no matter if we switch or not, UI looks amazing, I hope engine does as well.

Marcos - or even Myles since he has been coordinating with Gary on this - should suggest to Gary to add Pick & Roll as an offensive philosophy before he gets too deep into the coding and may not be able to add it.

And yes, this is a definite 1st day purchase for me. This game looks very promising!

The strategy revamping looks extremely promising, especially on the defensive side but I hope it will be balanced and well tested.

Looking at the Football screenshots, it looks like the media have been improved as well which will be great for immersion in solo.

I hope few other important aspects in my opinion will have been tackled:

- Development of players based on game experience, coaching staff and trainings. Right now it's just too unclear.

- Accurate ratings. I played a lot the 18 and some ratings are too much (Towns, Jokic, Simmons) with almost 100 everywhere. Other attributes are weird like Rose not injury prone or Kawhi disruptive. I know it can be fixed in db but it would make sense to work on accurate ratings.

- Some additional personality aspects would be great with players not satisfied with pt, teamates or results. It might have been done reading WS blog and looking at contract negotiation.

- Finally real contracts and salary cap in historic mode and sliders to adjust playing style but I might dreaming on this last one.

I played the 18 and currently attacking my 4th season with the Hawks and the game is quite solid and realistic. Having lot of fun so I expect so experience to get only better with the time.
