Re: Small changes to the CBA
if a tough penalty is a no go, then we could just bring the soft cap up to 70m. FA would be way better if more than 3 teams operated under the soft cap.Marcos_Beck wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 10:00 pm Hurts the franchise more than the GM, that's what I meant. Completely unecessary.
New idea..
Salary Cap: $67,000,000 (100%)
Luxury Tax (loss of LLE, tax-payer MLE): $80,500,000 (around 120%)
Penalty Appron (loss of MLE, 2nd round pick): $84,500,000 (around 126%)
Hard Salary Cap: $90,000,000 (around 134%)

Re: Small changes to the CBA
we need to significantly reduce the gap between the soft and hard cap. 68 to 95 doesnt move the needle.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
indeed.
67 to 90 puts us in line with nba's 2nd appron, which is basically a HC where teams can only sign minimum salaries after. We need a HC here because we don't use real money to pay taxes, so 2nd appron working as HC is as close as it gets to NBA.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
I definitely haven't looked into this as much as others have, so I'll roll with whatever the admins do or don't do.
But as someone that does a lot of financial/cap planning, all I would ask is that we're given plenty of notice before any major changes to plan and adjust accordingly.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
New thought out salary compromise:
Salary Cap: $73,000,000
Luxury Tax: $82,000,000(Loss of LLE)
Penalty Apron (loss of MLE): $86,000,000
Hard Salary Cap: $92,000,000
This new plan will set forward a new system that will bring a lot of excitement in free agency again. Teams with cap space can have fun, while teams having difficulty retaining players by hard cap, to sign them. With a little wiggle room to play with. They will have to be smart with their MLE or staying under the penalty 2.(which most contending gm's are over level 2)
If you don't have cap space, I fixed it where every non luxury team can & will have cap space...or MLE, LLE to play with. Creates a system where hard cap spenders still need to decide between matching a RFA offer or not.
This stops the elite from overpowering the newbies, also gives everyone a fair and equal chance to sign some nice players.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
We definitely appreciate all the ideas and discussion around the cap as I agree there are improvements that can be made. We will discuss between the admin team, but as mentioned above these changes wouldn’t take effect until we have provided the league enough time to adjust.
We do really appreciate the ideas as always! Thank you!

It'll be interesting to see what's decided because we're hitting that wall this offseason of way more talent than cap space and exceptions. There's gonna be some nice minimums (Who all wanna sign in Brooklyn lol)

Like the adjustments and the instruction trading will be a good addition. Wonder if this will become our cash considerations and even increase over time/carry over from season to season.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
I've never quite made sense of the two different arguments about the cap. On the one hand folks worry that no one has cap space, on the other hand folks worry that players sign for bargain deals. If players are signing for bargain deals, won't that eventually lead to cap space?

I probably didn't need to quote drumr as it's more of a reference to previous comments, but you know what I mean. If max-deserving players are resigning for (what are considered) bargains + good talent is going for the minimum, doesn't that eventually solve the problem of teams not having cap space? It's a market after all, and won't a raised cap just lead to larger contracts? In my head it's the CSL equivalent of the one-more-lane-will-fix-it traffic solution-- you're just incentivizing higher salaries when you give teams more money.
Of course i haven't thought about this nearly as much as other GMs so I could be misunderstanding the matter.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
if it was a fair market that would be true but it isnt a fair market. The bargain is relative to the 90m cap. Its not easy to be under 63m when the real cap is 90m. So its not easy(its impossible) to stop some players from signing way under their 90m value.TheTwoWallaces wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 11:16 pm I probably didn't need to quote drumr as it's more of a reference to previous comments, but you know what I mean. soft cap = hard cap = most fun and most skillful, players get paid what their worth
a huge gap = easier to retain your players because there are so few teams that can challenge you.
there is a sweet spot somewhere in the middle.
also i agree raising the cap does nothing, im promoting reducing the gap between the soft and hard cap.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
Ah ok, yea I agree that a smaller gap makes sense. I guess the $27million gap is a $27M advantage to retaining teams, never thought of it like that before.

Re: Small changes to the CBA
No free agency, and no draft either. The best player in any draft class goes to the GM who donates the most money to the comish.
The comish also gets first dibs on best players.
