With the 22nd pick of the CSL draft, the Detroit Pistons select Jonathan Mogbo out of the University of San Francisco.

The 6'9 225-lb Mogbo is not easy to place on a basketball court. His size suggests Forward, his skillset suggests guard. His shooting suggests all the above.

How the Pistons decide to develop Mogbo will therefore greatly impact his career trajectory. Do they utilize his size, decent rebounding, and efficiency at the basket to make him a PF? Or do they utilize his range from the corner and midrange, passing game, and inability to draw contact to make him a lanky SG?

As of now, the Pistons Front Office is leaning toward the latter.

Answers will come as much from mitigating Mogbo's weaknesses as from utilizing his strengths. Mogbo struggles shooting the ball in traffic, which is why he often prefers to pullup from midrange than attack the paint. He also struggles handling the ball, meaning that he will have to catch and shoot or pass to teammates to be effective. It's going to take time to find the right mix of instructions.

Mogbo has the tools to be a good player. It will be up to the coaching staff to turn him into one. Detroit, a team with many multi-positional wings like Vit Krejci, Ausar Thompson, Jaden McDaniels, and fellow draft pick Adonis Arms, they will get a chance to be patient and experiment with Mogbo.

weird, but talented player.
Mogbo is an excellent passer for a wing / big which is something Lucas really likes to have as we can see he has excellent passers at multiple positions (Bowman, Vit, Clowney, Sheppard)...
Thing is, where does Mogbo plays long term? His rebounding is adequate for SF and below average at PF, handles are below average at SF but good for a post guy. And the shooting profile will be rough to manage as he's great at the rim, shoots pretty well from mid range and corner, yet cannot score from 3-10 feet or from the break, and doesn't draw fouls or converts at the line. Defensively just average though will at least stay with his man at either forward position. I'm looking forward to see his development as he can be a starter with good coaching or a career backup with wrong development.

Yea I'm seeing his game as a taller Rip Hamilton. Good Pullup/ catch n shoot from the Mid and corner and some ability to get the basket. Excited to work him into a SG/SF and see if his defense will be enough to earn him minutes in the future.

Mogbo possesses a lot of the tools you want from a point forward. Has a pretty intriguing combo of shot creation for himself and others, can get to his spots in the mid-range with ease, has corner three-point range but not really ATB range. despite taking a lot of shots from there. His handles might be a bit of an issue for his play style as he could be turnover prone and tends to be inefficient when his drives are stopped short of the rim. His defense is on the shaky side, but isn't totally out of place guarding up or down a position. The final form of Mogbo should be a quality player if he fully develops, but there may be holes in his game that are tough to overlook.
