Build Your Own Coach

Post by Sun Scorched »

This idea struck me as both interesting and a way to address the dwindling talent in the coaching pool (plus the fact that, we ignore new engine created coaches).

I know there are varying opinions on if coaches even impact the game. This idea obviously implies they do. It would seem crazy to have built and entire part of the sim engine that does exactly nothing (though, I think we can all agree it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility).

What if, next offseason, everyone was able to - perhaps for just their head coach - design his skillset? Within certain allotted parameters? GMs could choose where to "spend" allotted points - the same amount of points every team started with. I'll use an example:

A = 4 / B = 3 / C = 2 / D = 1 / F = 0

HC Silly Billy (Maximum 10 Allocable Points)
Strategy - C (2 points)
Offense - B (3 points)
Defense - B (3 points)
Potential - F (0 points)
Development - C (2 points)

Pace - Will have to think about this, or the corresponding point value. My gut says more people would want "fast" or "very fast" as a pace, so perhaps that's more expensive. Looks like the options are: very fast / fast / average / slow / very slow
Press - perhaps every coach designed with "Average" here, not sure this matters...
Defense Style - Is there anything other than "Man-to-Man"?

Well shit. I'm getting rusty.

So how do we have "first last" in the list of available coaches - seems to indicated that there is an input somewhere, no?

There's an aspect of the game where all you do is gm and can't make game adjustments. It's mostly for single player. That's where the coach ratings come into play.
FINALLY a logical HC Rule our work is done

That one sucks btw. I remember trading for a key player only to see him being benched by AI coach
