2024 Rookie First Impressions

Post by emplep7 »

Discuss the rookie class here.

NOTE: Only the standard ratings (SCR, PAS, DEF, SCR_POT, etc) have been transferred to the game since the shooting ratings do not correspond to the DDS19 shooting ratings.

Matt Costello has a 63 PAS rating for a C. Might be useful.

I'm looking at another dude, solid shooter but not a scorer. Already a solid defender, projects to be great not amazing.

Right now it looks like ROY will be between Zion, and Luka. Others are too raw right now, but of course all of this could change with a boom in the training camp.

White and Smith look around what I expected based on scouting. White will be able to run PG, but we'll probably look for some depth there in FA.

Coby White looks pretty solid as a rookie. If he reaches his defensive ceiling (my scout sees very low 70s) then he's going to be a nice little floor general. Same goes with Zhaire Smith. If he reaches his potentials he's going to be a very versatile offensive player with his combination of passing, ball handling and scoring ability to go with some defensive ability.

Anfernee Simons has immense potentials as my scouts showed. I know in the FB chat people were saying he should have gone top-7 in this draft, and maybe he should have, but he is nowhere close to ready to play. This kid literally doesn't have a skill to fall back on yet. Here's to hoping he can boom in training camp!

Glad to hear! Don't have DDS3 so can't see any potentials yet until the file is transferred.

First look:
- Ja Morant not as good as anticipated
- Doncic & Zion top 3 locks (league wide)
- Afernee Simmons steal of the draft (suprised that he didnt get much hype compared to Bol Bol or Hachimura for example who look not really good compared to Afernee)
- plus 10s need to save the rest
- my bet: between 8-15 Players out of the first round will never be able to play 10+ minutes with a good chunk of them being out of the csl by that time

Bol looks more developed than anticipated but very raw offensively. Little is raw but potentials look as expected.
Congrats to season 16 ASL champion SoulKey. For the Swarm!

What is it you're seeing from Simons? His potentials look good but he's a long, long way from them. I can't put him on the floor this year unless it's a blowout.

Agree on Simons. If my scouts are right, he should have gone 3rd behind Zion and Luka. No kidding.

HTML is accurate so with 47 pass, 56 handle, 58 defense and 60 IQ in the more important 'hurt on the floor' ratings, he's fine to be on the floor right now. Even if his shooting is terrible, that 47 scoring will counter that anyway. I would have thought raw meant like 30-something ratings but he's fine now. This is pre-training camp too.

Our picks look okay. Nothing special but kind of what we expected.

Yeah I think Simons should have been a top 5 pick after looking at him as he is raw which puts him behind Rui and Ja, but if he hits those potentials he's going to be a star. Great pickup by the Nets for sure!

Some other solid players across the board too, but boy some of those second rounders are rough to look at.

He's raw yeah. But the upside outside out Ja, Zion, Doncic is 4th starter (at best). Afernee has star potential - I cant remember shooting ratings though. I would draft him over any talent, picked outside the top3, at any time. Didnt scout him often enough as I thought he wasnt that good tbh. So didnt know he's a potential superstar. Just suprised Bol Bol and Hachi have been more recognized by GMs/the league than Afernee was as they are at least two levels below Afernee.

Just my opinion though.

Simons had some crazy basic ratings potential for sure, I think the biggest knock was on his lack of range offensive wise.

I scouted Simons several times, so I’m not surprised by his ratings. He should be a pretty good player if he hits his potentials, but this hype train on him has gotten a bit out of hand imo.

I guess some people see his high SCR potential and are going nuts over it? To me, the SCR rating has only been important if it’s with the right player. And Simons is a SG that will only be efficient inside the paint. He won’t be good from 3, and he’ll only be average from mid-range. He should have excellent handles, so that’s definitely a plus. But he won’t be particularly great at drawing fouls.

Again, he should be a pretty good player for a team that already has a lot of shooting (which Brooklyn does), but he’s not a player for every team. I thought him going in the mid-teens to a Nets team with a lot of shooting already made sense. I’d pass on him again at 9, but I guess that’s just me.

Yah, Simons shooting ratings were too much of a concern for me. He could be a high volume shooter at a lower efficiency.
