Championship winning coach Kevin Garnett has been removed as head coach of the Sacramento Kings just days after steering the franchise to victory. In what was a surprise to many, the Kings and Garnett could not come to terms on another contract with the team opting to move on leaving the now championship coach without a job.
Kings brass have avoided the media but reports are coming through that they think Garnett is a greedy prick and good riddance after a number of players expressed their frustrations with him during the season. Former Atlanta Hawks assistant Rick Parmer has been given the head coaching role with the team still to fill the remaining assistant spots.
Former Kings player Otto Porter, who also left the team and is now an assistant coach in New Orleans, had this to say.
Otto Porter wrote:They just had to do it. Even with winning a title, the brass have tightened the belt and trimmed the coaching budget and Kevin wouldn't have any of it. Still demanding to be the highest paid coach around and they couldn't afford it. It's true he had issues with certain players so maybe it's for the better.
The Kings will look to fill out their remaining assistant positions during the last day of coach free agency before turning their attention to the rest of the off season.
