This is a make or break season for Garrison Mathews. He will either remain a New York Knick or be let go at the end of the postseason.
In his first three years, he has yet to take the next step. After a great postseason two years ago, Garrison went back to his old ways of just being a catch & shoot player. With Luka running the offense, it seemed ideal. But now it seems like the New York Knicks want Garrison to improve his offense before they decide to offer him a contract in the off season.
Mathews has always had talent but he seems to have the Tyler Hero syndrome with his ratings and stats. The Knicks are hoping with more drives and pull up shots, he will regain his confidence and be the 3rd option the New York Knicks have always imagined.
After two preference work on Friday, the very next game Garrison was able to put up 28 points against a very good Denver Nuggets team. Was it because of Luka not playing or is Garrison finally finding his groove?
We will see what happens but Garrison is starting to grow into a more complete player and that's what the Knicks want. Knicks are hoping he can continue to impress or if will he go back to his old ways, which will lead to them declining his bird rights.
