Two-Way Contracts

Post by KW »

Given that we now have access to manage our D-League teams, are we going to be able to sign two-way contracts next offseason?

From my understanding, they are slightly broken in this engine and you can't call them up to your main squad without converting them to a regular contract.

Regardless, I think they'd be nice to have for these reasons:
- Drafts are a bit deeper with us adding about 80 players per class
- Draft-and-stash a 2nd rounder for cheap if they're raw and unable to contribute right away, while retaining rights on him.
- Young players do not appear to develop if they are free agents during training camp, this eliminates that issue as they will be on your roster

Thoughts?

They are broken like you said in the fact that they are not truly two-way and once you bring them up to your main team they automatically get the min contract value so teams would have to be aware of that for salary purposes.

In regards to young FA players not developing, we have found that some of them actually develop a good chunk more than the young players on rosters. It isn't consistent, but some have seen massive jumps on the open market. I still get the point though that it would be nice to help develop some of these undrafted/second rounders and would make 2nd rounders more valuable.

I'm open to this moving forward and would like to see if this function works in the newer versions of the game. If we make this change though, it will be a CBA revision this off-season so that we can use it for the 2028 season.

We will not allow two-way contracts for next season.

That is something we are looking into in the 22 version of DDS.

Interesting

One of the points KW highlights above is that the draft classes are deeper.

Looking at the Sign Second Rounders thread, we have only 6 signed so far with few teams already announced waiving of rights. This class we had 84 prospects of which 30 are 1st rounders + 6 signed 2nd rounders. So that 48 prospects pretty much added to FA pool more or less because they are scrubs and you can get a better veteran at a minimum contract.

So essentially the class is not as deep as it looks?
Congrats to season 16 ASL champion SoulKey. For the Swarm!
