2025 - Retiring player
Our first season change in DDS 19 turned out to be most surprising.
No one really expected to see something like this retirement list, and it was discussed already at length in the forum.
The admin team took some time to test different scenarios and discuss the matter. We didn't want to rush a decision in one or another direction, before knowing how much of an outlier this season may be.
Thanks to Kyrus, the process was highly accelerated. His test results confirmed our first tests with a default league about the chances of retirement regarding age/talent.
It looks like in the new engine a player, even close to his prime, has a higher chance to retire. That may be even realistic in RL, but for a sim league it could change the dynamic of the whole league.
Pro and cons also already discussed in the forum.
Next step was to try Kyrus idea in handling a "manual" season change. Creating a workflow and making sure no important data is lost.
Interesting is that the game had even more player retired, but never even mentioned it in game. After every season the game replaces a certain number of players with game created rookies.
If a player is a free agent at season end, he just gets erased without note.
We can't change this behavior easily, but we can use it in our favor, it affects only free agents with high age or low talent.
Long story short, the workflow works and will keep good players active longer, like it was back in DDS3. After seeing the results and not finding any problems in our test's, we decided to go back to the end of last season and do a "manual retirement".

Re: 2025 - Retiring player
Does it mean AD and the others will return from retirement? If so, that's great news! Thanks to Kyrus and the Admins.

Yes, the old list is obsolete. AD did not retire with the new procedure.
We will post the new retirement list soon.

Re: 2025 - Retiring player
This is ridiculous! I thought the symmetry of a Chicago Bulls player in the running for the league MVP, winning the league championship and retiring early due to potential gambling ramifications brought the type of realism to this league that we are sorely lacking!

AD wants to win the title with an other team not using steroids in the playoffs.Rizzo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:29 amThis is ridiculous! Re: 2025 - Retiring player
I have not tried this yet in the GAH, but I also thought that the large number of players retiring was around the number of rookies in the class. As you know the default classes have a lot of players, so I was going to import the class at season's start with the actual number of players in the class. That way the number of retirements would decrease. At least that's my guess. No test, though.
