Not seeing it, probably a reach. Felt like he should’ve gone at #4

There goes my number 2 target at 5
So what do you expect when you draft Grabby McHolderson to play your right tackle?

Good to see the Mavs on to a good start of the rebuild.
Obvious but still good pick :-)

WIth the Second Pick in the NBA Draft the Dallas Mavericks select...

Image

Luka Doncic!

Strengths:
+ Well rounded scoring
+ Can create for himself
+Great passing ability and vision
+Great size for a PG or SG, bodes well for his lineup versatility and defense

Weaknesses:
- Outside shooting
- Experience
- Size could give him some trouble against quick and agile PGs

GM Interview
When asked about his thought process, Dallas GM Daniel Port couldn't help but gush:
"It was hard to not do a dance once Luka fell to us. What's not to love about Luka, he can score, he can pass, he can do it all. Take all those skills and put it into a SF's body and that's what sets him apart. He can play anywhere 1 through 3 and for a team that is essentially operating with a blank slate that gives us a ton of options as to how we want to build a contender. When you factor in that we've already brought in the perfect compliment to Luka in Tim Quarterman, we've got the perfect duo to make this rebuild a short one.
Now that we've got a complimentary scorer who can also defend, we can take this team in any direction. Surround him with shooters to take advantage of his court vision? Capitalize on on Luka's length and Quarterman's solid defense and surround them with elite defenders to form a Grit N' Grind monster? We could even chase Embiid and form a young trio that could compete with anyone in the league. The world is our basketball oyster and Luka is who unlocks it for us.

Player Intervew
Luka himself, couldn't help but reciprocate his new General Manager's excitement:
"I had my fingers crossed the entire time that I would end up in Dallas. Throughout the draft process I really felt like Dallas was the perfect spot for me. They talked about how it was a blank slate, a tabula rasa that I could help mold and make my own. They emphasized that I we take every avenue, be it analytics or scouting, or spending to help maximize my abilites and build a team that will be a contender sooner rather than later.

A pick where you cant go wrong. Him and Zion will forever have their CSL careers compared now, but lucky for you is that you didn't have a choice. I think hes going to be an absolute stud in the league and should put you in the playoff hunt almost immediately. Good luck with him!

I love it when prospects end up getting drafted to the teams they play for in real life. This was the obvious pick here in my opinion.

I will be adding a "creator's note" on all the players that I created to give some extra perspective on how I envisioned them.

Creator's Note: I think Luka was created late in his NBA rookie season (or maybe just after it ended), once it was pretty clear he was special, but we weren't quite sure how special. So I built him based on what I expected his real life career would go. I certainly didn't envision him to average a 29-point near-triple-double in his second NBA season and do such a great job leading the Mavs, so I wonder if I did him a little dirty.

Regardless, I project Luka to be a fantastic offensive weapon with an insane basketball mind, great floor general abilities, and quite efficient scoring from all over the floor. On the other end, he isn't great on defense but can force turnovers. He is a worse rebounder than his NBA counterpart, but still solid.

No denying that Luka was the 2nd best prospect in this draft. If it weren't for a generational talent ahead of him, Doncic would have been the first pick by a landslide. Easy pick to be made by Dallas: take whichever of the two studs were leftover and walk away happy!

From my scouting Luka pretty good, the only thing I was a bit skeptical was his SCR rating, as he looks like to be in the mid 60s at best. Maybe I just got the low end of his scouts.
