I really wanted some commitments already but no one in my conference got any commitments so I guess I'm okay so far.

Got a couple guys who I am top of their list, but will wait and see. Nothing confirmed yet. Nobody in the top 100 overall will be coming to Nerbaska I'm pretty sure. Tough conference to be a part of too!

Three Recruits Verbally Commit to Drexel!
Image

Center Michael Miller:
  • 6'10", 238 pounds
  • #196 overall, #26 position
  • 13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.3 spg, 1. bpg
  • Notable Ratings: Inside Shooting (A), Scoring (B), Defense (B), Rebounding (C), Shot Blocking (C), Athleticism (C), Overall (B)

Point Guard Chris Cosby:
  • 6'1", 174 pounds
  • #479 overall, #122 position
  • 16.2 ppg, 3.5 apg, 3.7 rpg, 1.5 spg
  • Notable Ratings: Ball Handling (A), Outside Shooting (A), Scoring (B), Athleticism (B), Defense (C), Passing (C)

Point Guard Earl Nixon:
  • 6'2", 176 pounds
  • #519 overall, #125 position
  • 17.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg
  • Notable Ratings: Outside Shooting (A), Scoring (B), Ball Handling (B), Defense (B), Athleticism (B)

While we don't particularly need guard help, it was my focus all along to get as many top athletes, scorers and defenders as possible for our 3-guard lineup we are going to be running. Adding Cosby and Nixon does just that. Nixon will be the much better point guard while Nixon should see more time at the two and the three as we put him in scoring positions as much as possible.

The crown jewel of our recruiting class is the big man Michael Miller. We have no depth at power forward or center, so landing a top-200 player to fill the void was a huge win for us. His ability to score in the post while also being a plus defender with good athleticism and shot blocking should fit nicely into our uptempo offense and pressure defense.

Coach Rizzo is happy with his recruiting haul and is ready to get this season started with the guys he already has on his roster!

Nebraska gets its first recruit commitment:

PG Jon Evans out of Grandview High School, Grandview, Montana.

PPG - 16.9
APG - 5.0
SPG 1.5

A good ball handling point guard that can find his teammates was what I wanted. Evans ranked at #180 overall and #49 for PG.
He was one of my first picks, and generally around the level of player I am expecting at 2.5/5 prestige rated team.

2 more to come in, lets see what happens as Weatherston tries to build a legacy in Nebraska.

Just got my first commitment!

PG Desmond Tucker - 749th Nationally, 160th at his position
Scoring: B
Passing: B
Handling: B
Inside Shooting: C
Outside Shooting: A
Defense: C
Stealing: C
Athleticism: C

He was ranked as high as 350th nationally a month ago, so I'm really high on this player. He displays the ratings I find important for a point guard, and at 6'5", 212lbs, he could definitely slide down to SG or SF if I need him to. He has a high work ethic according to his HS coach which is a good sign for sure. Only downside, he's dumb as a rock and will not be eligible for his first semester of college so he'll miss about half his first season, but I'm confident we can get his grades up in time for the spring semester. Our school has the lowest SAT requirements I could find, so I'm confident he will qualify based on that at least.

One of the really interesting things about reading everyone's commitments is seeing how people are going to play and strategize. Rizzo going with fast pace, high pressure, and spread offense. Matty sounds like he's going with the Calipari approach (fitting that Cal coached at UMass all those years ago), getting as much talent as possible and figuring out the rest later. Dweatherston getting a pass first point in Nebraska so perhaps more of a traditional style of basketball for that team. I'm looking forward to following all of these teams in the season!
