RAPTOR++ / 2019-2020 CSL Season Ep.2

Post by Chilikonkarne »

For those who don’t know RAPTOR++, it is a tool that combine the ratings of each player (70%) and his efficiency in game (30%). Their capacities are weighted in order to value good rebounding for bigs for example.
The % in game is also considered in the ratings which probably change the balance from 70/30 to 60/40.

The tool premiere objective is to evaluate players value when it comes to trade or free agency. It has it flaws with some defensive aspects not taken into consideration (%STP, PA/SF).
However, I believe it bring a good overview in general and was well received the last years by the league.
I decided not to include team record since I like to compare the players over the years.

2019 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 24.7pts, 48%, 4.2ast, 4.7rbd, 2stl, 1.3blk in 35.6min / EVAL: 89.8
2018 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 20.6pts, 48%, 5.5ast, 4.6rbd, 1.7stl, 1.5blk in 36.9min / EVAL: 85.4
2017 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 21.1pts, 46%, 5.4ast, 5.2rbd, 1.9stl, 1.5blk in 35.6min / EVAL: 86.6
2016 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 19.8pts, 49%, 3.5ast, 4rbd, 1.5stl, 1.3blk in 30.6min / EVAL: 87.8
2015 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 18.9pts, 47%, 3.8ast, 3.8rbd, 1.1stl, 1.2blk in 31.8min / EVAL: 77.3
2014 - Dante Exum - Utah Jazz : 12.4pts, 41%, 2.7ast, 3.4rbd, 0.8stl, 1.1blk in 26min / EVAL: 71.0

Filter : A player has to play more than 20 minutes a game and at least 30 games to be eligible (Randle and Durant out)

Here we go for the Top10 ranking by position!

Nice. Good to see Parsons get on the list too, alongside his pals Dante and now Faried.

I can't wait to see Whiteside the number 1 center soon. Porzingbust likely will never see what this list looks like...

I feel sad that Whiteside took all of our Cs to school in the recent game. Toyed with us like we completely forgot how to play basketball :(

Good to see Valenciunas making the list, along with Yabusele, and Harris making the honorable mention. Surprise that Cotton didn't make it.

Pretty happy to see Wall atop this list. His shooting has been out of wack since he got here but he's still been a great defender, and solid playmaker. Hopefully he can get the shot ironed out in time to make one last push for the playoffs.

Gordon is putting up better numbers than Solomon but isnt even close to the top 10?

Gordon: 13.6p, 7.7r, 1s, 1.5b, 54,5%
Solomon: 13.3p, 6.7r, 1s, 0.9b, 56%

I get Salomon is ranked higher because of fewer minutes played (2 minutes), but why is there such a big difference?

I love these ratings. Surprised Blake is so high despite those haves he was credited for he didn't play. Thought Dwight would have been higher.

My rookie Coty Clarke has been slept on. Has double digit scoring when he started for injuries and has backed up Harkless all season and played PF while Blake was out. Hovering around a 45% fg too. If he were playing 26 mins a game he'd be close to the top rookies stat wise.

Great work here Chili, really enjoy this series.

I think Carr should be a top 10 rookie given his ridiculous efficiency for a guard - 8PPG in 14.5 MPG / 47 FG%, but given the higher volume, and minutes of some of the other rookies I understand. I'm taking Dame over any PG in the league but #5 on your rankings in pretty respectable, I gather defensive ratings play into guys like Wall/Bledsoe/Walker being higher.

Nice work.

I thought it was good seeing Westbrook have the highest rating league wide until I saw Anthony Davis who is over the 100 mark.

The % in game is also considered in the ratings which probably change the balance from 70/30 to 60/40.
The tool premiere objective was to evaluate players value when it comes to trade or free agency - it is not an efficiency rating only
