RAPTOR++ / Final 2016-2017 CSL Season

Post by Chilikonkarne »

For those who don’t know RAPTOR++, it is a tool that combine the ratings of each player (70%) and his efficiency in game (30%). Their capacities are weighted in order to value good rebounding for bigs for example.
The % in game is also considered in the ratings which probably change the balance from 70/30 to 60/40.

The tool premiere objective is to evaluate players value when it comes to trade or free agency. It has it flaws with defensive aspects not taken into consideration (%STP, PA/SF)
However, I believe it bring a good overview in general and was well received last year by the league.
I decided not to include team record since I like to compare the players over the years.

2016 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 19.3pts, 48%, 3.5ast, 4rbd, 1.4stl, 1.3blk in 30.4min / EVAL: 87.1
2015 - Dante Exum - Utah_Jazz : 18.9pts, 47%, 3.8ast, 3.8rbd, 1.1stl, 1.2blk in 31.8min / EVAL: 77.3
2014 - Dante Exum - Utah Jazz : 12.4pts, 41%, 2.7ast, 3.4rbd, 0.8stl, 1.1blk in 26min / EVAL: 71

Filter : A player has to play more than 20 minutes a game and at least 50 games to be eligible.
Player not meeting this requirements (L.James, D.Cousins, C.Parsons, L.Aldridge...)

Here we go for the Top10 ranking by position - final edition of the season!

Man, definitely an underwhelming rookie class, but it looks like Saunders should turn into a decent player in the league. Expected Anderson to clean up the ROY voting, but we'll see.

Interesting to see Deng in there 6th for SFs in only 20 mins per game (6th man of the year?)

Its tough for a rookie to get PT on a 50 win team but 19 year old Vince Hunter is producing some impressive numbers in just 15 mins. He'd probably be top 5 there in Raptor ++ rating
Congrats to season 16 ASL champion SoulKey. For the Swarm!

Kyrie in the upper-echelon of players in the league while Moe Harkless gets an Honorable Mention at SF. I'll take that. George DePaula didn't blow anybody away this season but with two more training camps and time to grow he's going to be one of the best guards, if not players, in the entire league.

Good to see my rookies #1 and #2. Since Saunders joined the Thunder, he has averaged over 15ppg and 48% from 3 in about 30mpg. The guy can definitely shoot from three.

I love OP but the SF position here is really just Durant and then nothing but headlights until the rest. He's that far in front of everyone else.

OP has been at SG also since Parsons returned. Does that mean he would be 3 in the shooting guard rankings or can the rating change per position?

Surprised Beal didn't make honorable mentions for SG but glad to see Howard 1st amongst centers.

Ratings changes by position but I assume it wouldn't be a big impact for OP
