From a skill standpoint, few can question Marcos’s GM skills, as he is very well-regarded for his roster-building capabilities. So the Suns will surely benefit from his addition. That’s obvious. But more importantly, Marcos is a good guy and friend that I enjoy conversing with. He understands that he did not leave the CSL on the best of terms, and he is sorry about that. Without going into detail, he was going through a tough time outside the CSL (which I’m sure most of us can relate to), and at that time, the CSL was toxic for him. He just needed to get away to get his life back in order. I think we all wish it came under different circumstances, but that’s life sometimes. And (to me) that’s okay. Marcos is doing really well right now, and he’s missed the CSL. So after talking to him for a bit about all sorts of things, he asked about applying to be the Suns’ Assistant GM, and I of course accepted. He’s a humbled guy that just wants to enjoy the CSL again by building a winner with a good friend, without the stresses and criticisms that go along with being head GM. And that’s something I really look forward to as well.
Going forward, Marcos will help me in all aspects of running the team. He needs no training wheels, although there may be somewhat of a learning curve related to the new engine. Feel free to contact either (or both) of us in regards to trades. We’ll be in constant contact, and I’ve given him free reign to engage in trade negotiations, although I will of course have final say.
