Pacers bring in DeMarcus Cousins

Post by TheTwoWallaces »

Image Can DeMarcus Cousins be enough to get Indiana into the playoffs?

The Indiana Pacers have acquired 14-year vet DeMarcus Cousins from the New Orleans Pelicans.

To bring in the 34-year old, the Pacers sent out wingman Allen Crabbe. Crabbe was averaging 4.9 ppg in 21 mpg in 29 starts. However, Crabbe was struggling to find minutes behind younger wingmen such as Rawle Alkins, Monte Morris, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Cousins, meanwhile, comes in to fill a crucial gap on the Pacers depth chart. Sophomore sensation Michael Porter Jr has not played in over a month with a broken wrist. His absence has caused the Pacers to drop out of the top 8 in the impossible Eastern Conference. Add that to Eric Mika's recent sprained finger, and the Pacers frontcourt was painfully thin.

The Pacers expect Cousins to play extended filler minutes during their playoff push. After the season ends and Cousins' $7,00,000 comes off the books, the Pacers will reassess his value to the organization.

I really like the move. Cousins is still a really good scorer and rebounder. A great rental.

The right move to make.
The team clearly needed a little change to hopefully find back the winning ways.

And you didn't loose much in it. If he is not able to step up it free's cap.

Yeah, great move. You guys started off so hot and then something happened and you haven't found that magic again since. Maybe this is the move that gets you back on track, but you had us pretty damn worried for those first couple months of this season.

Michael Porter getting injured happened -- I think we were 20-8 when he went down, and our entire system was built around slowing things down & getting him good looks. Hopefully his return next week + Cousins can get us some momentum

Good move, low risk, and potentially could be high reward if Cousins can find his form as a post scorer and rebounder for you guys.

Cousins is a good addition. Myles Turner would have been better!

Great move, Crabbe has been horrible from Day One pretty much.

I actually liked Crabbe — his defense was good & in this engine he lets you focus shots on other players, while hitting a couple open 3s a game

I didn't check the trade but as a one year rental, he can score and rebound. Wish you luck man. I love what you have done with the Pacers.

This team started out strong and ended up faltering some but I think that's because Porter was out for some time and was a key cog for this team. I still think the trade for him last season was one of the best I've seen - usually a talent like Porter isn't available and you got him for a reasonable price. Your team is north of .500 and could still make the playoffs this season, but more than that your young core is fascinating. Anyway, as for this article, Cousins is a solid 3rd big and gives you some injury insurance.
