How Come He Don't Want Me, Man? Unappreciated Free Agents Pt. 2

Post by emplep7 »

As a continuation of Myles article, this one will look at some of the forwards who aren't getting offers (or not enough offers) for the talent they provide:

Damian Jones
I'm going to start with the young man of the bunch who at 24 is nearly a decade younger than most of these guys. Hes an RFA, but all he does is grab boards and play defense. He will never score and has received no attention from his previous GMs but he's a very solid defensive big man who should be getting some offers thrown his way.

Kevin Durant

Not that long ago, KD was one of the top 2 players in the league behind Lebron. It is no doubt that at 35 years old, he will no longer be the 36 minute per game, 30 ppg type of player he was in his prime, but he can still score a ton off the bench and should easily get 16-20 mins on a good team. He is still really efficient and although his defense isn't what it once was, he should find suitors towards the end of his career.

Kevin Love
Love has always been very polarizing in the league and he's another 35 year old who isn't the dominant player he once was, but K Love still can score with the best of them and his rebounding ability is still valued. He's another player who wouldn't hold up for 36 minutes a game, but as a top reserve big man role he would be the tops in the league. Kevin should be feeling the love.

DeMarcus Cousins

The age bias continues as this 34 year old, one time top big man in the league is finding himself down on his luck. DMC might be the best suited of this big man bunch to still start though and had a very solid year in Minnesota last year, where he posted numbers better than most starting big men in the league. Sure he takes a slight step back, but hes still worthy of starting for several contenders out there.

Jimmy Butler
Man is it sad seeing our stars age and Jimmy isn't going to be a scorer for any team, but he still provides stellar defense and the engine has proved time and time again that you need veterans on your team if you want to win. Every young team in the league has choked in the playoffs and I don't see that changing in the new engine. Insert Jimmy into 12 mins of your lineup and I would bet you reap the rewards.

Tristan Thompson
At 32, he is the young buck of the bunch and he could still easily start in this league. He can score at a decent clip and is still one of the top offensive rebounders in the league. His defense won't hurt you and he's low usage (just ask the Celtics last year). He would be another great addition to most teams out there who lack a great 5th starter as a big man.

Kenneth Faried

Man, Faried was a beast back in the day and the story is the same where he can't start anymore, but he can still provide plenty of valuable minutes to every team in the league. This guy has won championships and is as gritty as they come and should be seeing more respect from the league at this point.

So underappreciated they didn't even make it on the first list lol.

So much veteran talent.

The new engine could breathe some life into KD's career. He's had the nastiest injury bug in DDS 3, and whatever causes that won't be transferring over. He's still got a lot left in the tank.

We're only 4 years ahead, it's unfortunate players basically shrivel up and die at 34 in this engine

I'm hoping in the new engine that doesn't happen, but I'm almost positive it does...

I completely forgot about Damian Jones. I'm guessing others did too. But there's an excellent (very) low-usage, rebounding defender. 70+ oreb, dreb, def, blk, dis. And he's just 24!

Terrence Jones should be on this list too. Dude could be a great defensive specialist in the new engine where you can pick matchups.
