Warriors Sign Ellenson to $55 Million Deal
Oakland, CA - The first domino for the Golden State Warriors fell just moments ago as reports leaked that Ellenson agreed to a new contract with the Warriors. The deal is for 5 years and $55 million dollars, with a base salary of $10,000,000 in year one. Additionally, the fifth year of the contract includes a team option.
Ellenson, 24, is a 6'11 and 205 lb forward that has found a home in Golden State after spending his earlier seasons in Portland. He was the key piece to the trade that saw Kevin Durant end up in Portland and the Warriors made it known they planned on having him return. In 63 starts for the Warriors last season, Ellenson averaged 15.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg while shooting 52% from the field and 43% from 3 pt range. He quickly caught the eye of new GM cb4raptorscb4 after moving to small forward for 7 games after the new GM took the reigns. In those 7 games, Ellenson averaged 22 points and 9 rebounds per game, but did play 38 minutes a night.
With the rule changes coming into effect next season, Ellenson provides the Warriors with a versatile big man that can play both forward positions. Despite being young, he is now considered one of the veterans on an extremely young Warriors roster.
