Tony Carr profile
We originally picked Penn State Point Guard Tony Carr randomly expecting to see some useless late second round scrub who’ll end up playing in D-League.
Happy to say that, after our scouting trip, the above statement is very, very wrong.
Dude is a player.
The first thing you notice is his amazing shooting ability. Whether in a 1 on 1 situation, running off screens or whatever else – he is one of the best perimeter scorers in college basketball. Simply can’t miss. Mid-range, threes – they just go in no matter who is defending him. Better yet, he is not shy about making his presence felt at all. No, he is not a Kevin Knox type of crazy person but he will not hesitate to let it fly when his number is called. Reminds us a lot of Khris Middleton and that is not a statement we make lightly.
When he tries to drive, the story is very different though. Defenders are playing him very close, daring him to drive as he looks completely lost in the paint. Not a high flying dunker, he simply can’t finish inside. Also, he is a score first player with little to no ability to find his teammates. His impressive 6’5 frame allows him to shoot over smaller Point Guards but he has no IQ to pass or do something creative with the ball.
We’re also impressed by his ability to handle the ball for such a tall player. There are maybe 20 players in CSL already who have his handles at his height or taller. He can easily play SG/SF and he will be a very tough perimeter defender, good enough to play for high pressure teams and high intensity teams – he knows very well how to stay on the court.
But wait, there is more – dude is a very good rebounder for a PG or even SF. He is one of those rare PGs who is a nightly double-double threat but with scoring/rebounding combo instead of scoring/passing. He’ll crash the boards at both ends but especially on defense.
Overall, we are very happy with the trip and see Tony as a talented player who’ll make a rock solid wing in CSL. Can he start? Perhaps not straight away as he is a raw rookie after all, but in the right situation he can develop is a good starter or reliable combo guard off the bench.
In Summary
Strengths:
- Khris Middleton type of perimeter scoring threat. You can’t leave this dude open as he can’t miss from mid to long range
- Very good to Elite free throw shooter
- Very tall for a PG at 6’5 which allows him to play multiple positions
- Good scorer – projected to easily average double figures in CSL (as a starter)
- Rock solid PG Handle
- Excellent rebounder at both ends for a guard
- Plays defense well and can become a good fit to high pressure teams
- Very Good to Elite discipline
- Has some ability to draw contact
Weaknesses:
- Can’t buy a basket inside. Absolutely no way he should be allowed to even enter the paint on offense. To be fair though, seems that he knows this and tends to stick to the perimeter.
- Poor passer for a PG but with his size and scoring ability he is likely to play SF/SG more anyway
- Center like IQ
- Somewhat chubby at 204 lbs
Best Case: Rich man’s Sir Dominic Pointer
Worst Case: Poor man’s Sir Dominic Pointer
Projection: Late First round? We are definitely impressed and encourage you to give this guy a look.
Congrats to season 16 ASL champion SoulKey. For the Swarm!

He looks interesting on paper, but then again it could just be Andrei playing games with us, but we will give him a look regardless.
Big changes are coming in D.C.

Can shoot outside and plays good defense? Interesting. I'll have to send a scout his way.

Who's Sir Dominic Pointer?
I like the write-up and the description. Players like him always have a home in this league.

3-point specialist who can got some steals. On the Wolves roster right now. I don't think it's a particularly comp since nobody but Willy would try him at PG

Re: Tony Carr profile
Twas a joke. Last year on a podcast I told Andrei to stop playing guys like Pointer, Sampson, etc in favor of his young talent like Jamal Murray, I think it was Murray.

He seems like he could be a very effective role player. Zone buster for sure. If his defense is indeed decent, he could be a potential starter on the wing. Decent handles and rebounding are a plus. I like this guy so far.
