Thunder Look Towards Future

Post by atsather »

While it has been a frustrating start to the season with a record of 7-21, spirits are still high in OKC. The roster is young, cap space is a plenty, and draft picks are in the coffers. "There are a lot of assets at our availability to improve the roster", stated GM Andrew Sather.

A few of those assets were recently acquired in trades; SF Kevin Knox and PF Harry Giles. Both had limited playing time at their previous teams, but are now playing big minutes for the Thunder. "We fully expect those 2 guys to be cornerstone pieces of our franchise for a very long time", stated Sather.

Both Knox and Giles are pending FAs, but have Bird Rights. With ample cap space, both should be able to be retained for the long haul. With those 2 pieces and an upcoming top 5 draft pick (likely), there is reason for optimism in Thunder territory.

"We will continue to look at the long term plan and stick to that. We will not sacrifice short term gain for long term success", stated Sather. "We believe our futures is bright if we capitalize on the moves available to us and the picks at our disposal".

Definitely the right mindset — patience is everything!

Super curious to see if there’s offseason interest in Giles or Knox. Teams could look to make you pay up for them. But you’ve got the cap space and the time. Scout away!

You have done a good job so far in this long rebuild effort. It looks like Knox is playing well with the big minutes already. Keep up the good work.

This project will take some time, but you did the right things so far.
As said before, patience is key.
I'm sure at least Knox will get some interest in FA, good thing the OKC finances are looking good and there is nothing wrong with having a good pick out of an somewhat frustrating season.

Thunder do have a bright future. Knox is a solid pick up for sure. Add the picks you have this year, the sky is the limit.

A lot of GMs would be impatient and make bad moves, but you have been doing a great job and staying put and letting this play out. I would say most of the time that works out for the best so stick to it and you'll have this team back in the playoffs before you know it.

Brotherly jabs aside, I like the moves the Thunder have made thus far. A lead guard is needed, but SGA is meant to be in OKC and would turn the franchise around really quick!
